We do not cut a hole in the top section because the location needed would be different for every model...the TV will need mounting brackets...same as if it's wall mounted and those can be purchased where the TV is purchased. As pictured, the TV is mounted to the wall with a metal mounting bracket (not supplied).

I love my new widescreen TV cabinet!
I am very happy with this purchase. I ordered the cabinet in antique white with a slate blue top. The slate color is more on the blue side, and very pretty. The antique white seems to be a creamy white, with a very slight yellowish tint. It was the regular distressed finish, which was not "too distressed" for my taste. It arrived exactly when expected and was packaged very well. It looks exactly the way I expected. My husband and I really like it.
